This excerpt from Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot is a reminder that it’s possible that we are completely alone in the universe. Alone in a sea of darkness, sailing blindly on a tiny rock.
Although we may be on our own in the cosmic sense, we are not truly alone. This planet is the only place humanity has ever called home. Every human in history was born on this planet and has died here, no matter their status or fortune.
I used bright, friendly colors juxtapose vast, looming geometric shapes to illustrate this uncertain togetherness.
We are alone in the darkness, but we are alone together.
